The Virginia Alliance for Secure Computing and Networking (VASCAN) exists for the purpose of strengthening information technology security programs within the Commonwealth of Virginia. IT Security professionals, IT Managers, technical staff, and auditors from Higher Education, K-12, Government, and Law Enforcement are all encouraged to attend this very informative conference.

The theme of the 2016 VASCAN Conference is “We stopped clicking links before it was cool”. During the conference attendees will hear from industry recognized experts on topics related to information security, defense techniques, risk management, compliance (including several second day sessions about PCI compliance), cloud security and auditing.

Our keynote is Dr. Phyllis Schneck who serves as the Deputy Under Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD). She is the chief cybersecurity official for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and supports its mission of strengthening the security and resilience of the nation's critical infrastructure.

This year the conference will feature a one day cloud security class: Cloud Computing Security Knowledge -CCSK Foundation (V3.1). Class registration is restricted to employees of higher education, K-12, and Virginia State government and closes on September 23, 2016. Registration is limited at 100 seats. There is no video conferencing for this training along with no video taping of the training.

This tailored one day CCSK Foundation course includes full course workbook from the CCSK Foundation course. There will not be time in one day to cover all the slides and topics in the course workbook. After completing this training, students will need to study the full workbook in preparation for the CCSK certification exam, sponsored by Cloud Security Alliance. This course does not include any lab exercises.

The students will receive a full standard printed student guide and one exam token. An exam date is not connected with the conference. The exam token is valid for two attempts should the student fail the exam in the first attempt.
